Universal Dark Mode is a Chrome extension created by John Hendry Tafui. This privacy policy explains how the extension handles your data.

Data Collection

Universal Dark Mode does NOT collect, transmit, store, or share any personal data whatsoever. We have no servers, no databases, and no analytics.

Data Storage

The extension stores your preferences (theme selection, brightness, contrast, schedule times, and whitelist) locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.sync API. This data:

• Is stored entirely on your device and within your Google account's Chrome sync (if enabled)
• Is never transmitted to any external server
• Is never shared with any third party
• Can be completely removed by uninstalling the extension

Permissions Explained

The extension requires the following permissions, each used exclusively for its dark mode functionality:

• storage — To save your preferences (theme, brightness, schedule, whitelist)
• activeTab — To apply dark mode styles to the current tab
• scripting — To inject the dark mode CSS into web pages
• alarms — To power the auto-schedule feature (checking if dark mode should be on/off)
• tabs — To broadcast your settings changes to all open tabs simultaneously
• Host permissions (<all_urls>) — Dark mode must modify the visual styling of every webpage you visit; this is impossible without broad host access

Third-Party Services

The extension loads the Inter font from Google Fonts for the popup interface. Google's Fonts API privacy policy applies to that request. No other third-party services are used.

Analytics & Tracking

We do NOT use any analytics, tracking, or telemetry of any kind. No usage data, browsing history, or behavioral data is ever collected.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the changes will be reflected here with an updated date. Significant changes will be noted in the extension's changelog.
